Pre-workouts are everywhere.
Colored powders, promises of instant energy, maximum focus…
But in reality, is that really what your body needs?
As a nutritionist, I often see people looking for a “boost” when the solution is much simpler.
Your energy starts on your plate
Before even talking about supplements, it is essential to understand one thing: your body runs primarily on carbohydrates.
They are what:
- fuel your muscles
- support your effort
- provide your energy
Without carbohydrates, your body compensates… and you feel it quickly: fatigue, decreased performance.
Pre-workout: what these products really contain
Most commercial pre-workouts all have a similar structure.
Combined stimulants—caffeine, guarana, taurine… Multiple sources to amplify the energizing effect.
A sweet taste… without energy
Sweeteners replace sugar. So: no carbohydrates, no energy!
An impressive list of ingredients... Creatine, BCAAs, vitamins… but often underdosed, so they have little concrete effect.
The only truly scientifically proven and effective ingredient: CAFFEINE
It can:
- improve alertness
- reduce the perception of effort and fatigue
But it does not replace an adequate diet. One key point to remember: feeling stimulated ≠ having energy
You may feel “boosted”… but still be low on carbohydrates.
Here are 3 examples of simple snacks to have before working out!
