Nutrition tips to get back on track.

Conseils nutrition pour se remettre sur les rails.

After the holiday season, when food and alcohol were consumed in abundance, we all feel the desire, in January, to get back on the right track.

Instead of following all kinds of questionable nutrition programs, here are our four simple and effective tips to put into practice.

1. Let’s listen to our appetite
Finishing everything on our plate to be polite is a thing of the past. Today, when we’re no longer hungry, we stop eating even if there is still food on our plate. Does that seem strange to you? It shouldn’t.

Waste-reducing tip: Put our leftovers in a small container and eat them for lunch the next day.

2. Don’t eat when we’re distracted
With all the food filling the house, it is practically impossible not to help ourselves, often unintentionally while watching television or looking at our tablet. Most people do it without even thinking about it and only realize it when the bowl of snacks is empty. To reduce this tendency, let’s eat only at the table, without distractions.

3. Have a snack
One thing we can do is have a mid-morning or afternoon snack so we don’t arrive at meals starving. Waiting for a meal can be difficult on an empty stomach. If we have a snack beforehand, not only will we be less tempted by calorie-filled, fatty and sugary foods, but we will also eat smaller portions during the meal because we will be less hungry. A healthy snack can consist of yogurt or fruit with nuts, vegetables and dip, or a Zenit energy square or Zenit energy balls, or whole-wheat crackers with hummus or cheese...

4. Pay attention to liquid calories
Liquid calories include juice, alcohol and soft drinks. They not only increase our calorie intake, but they do not curb our appetite. Alcohol can even increase our appetite and lead us to make poor food choices. Let’s add water to our days. To give it a festive touch, add berries or lime to give it flavor and the look of a fun drink. Black coffee and herbal teas, as well as mineral water, contain no calories.

With these simple tips, we will improve our eating habits... If, in addition, we add healthy foods to our plates (fruit, vegetables, whole grains, protein), we will truly be at Zenit :-)
